AAM Annual Meeting Wall of Ideas

At the 2009 AAM Annual Meeting, attendees were invited to write their comments and ideas on the following topics:
  • The biggest challenge museums can help society face in the future?
  • In 2034, my museum will be…
  • One thing you’ll not see in museums in 2034?
Below you can find some of the ideas that we found on the Wall.

The biggest challenge museums can help society face in the future?
  • Making the shift from “push” mentality to “pull” mentality – what makes us think we have to preach “respite”? We need to drop the elitism and become more mainstream.
  • How to connect to the people who live next door (as opposed to your FB friends).
  • Connecting to the “real”
  • Free, public, quality education
  • The challenge of educating our children to compete in a global society
  • Recognizing the value of creativity in all professional fields
  • Mediating multi-culturalism
    • Maybe facilitating?
  • Bringing the world of ideas to all!!

In 2034, my museum will be…
  • On my phone
  • Unchanged
  • Floating
  • Crowded with passionate visitors
  • Confident we will be here in 3034
  • Essential, worthy, green and free
  • Accessible anywhere, relevant everywhere
  • Funded
  • Virtual – online
  • Still inventorying
  • Serving all ages, not just kids
  • Without walls
  • Still seeking funds
  • Closed
  • Still safeguarding irreplaceable stuff
  • Still telling stories you won’t find anywhere else

One thing you’ll not see in museums in 2034?
  • Empty galleries
  • Paper visitor guides/maps
  • Incandescent lighting
  • Inaccessible buildings, exhibits, or programs…2014 would be a better target date
What do you think?
