The ultimate green museum—recycling the city? - Nov 04, 2009

This week, the trend-spotters at Springwise (one of our favorite trend-spotting resources) finally spotted the City Museum in St. Louis, which they describe as a “hyperlocal museum made of salvaged objects … an eclectic mixture of children’s playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion and architectural marvel made out of unique, found objects.”

Travel writers, high-tech hipsters, and scholars* have been noticing the City Museum since its opening in 1997. Most have focused on the institution as a work of experiential art and a challenge to the conventions of traditional museums—but few have pointed out that the City Museum is also a model of sustainability through recycling.
